What Bait to Use for Raccoons

It's no secret that raccoons eat garbage. They're not picky eaters, but some foods seem to be more popular amongst these creatures, especially food with high fat or sugar content. So when you're setting your traps, these are the kinds of foods that most people will use.

Fatty Foods

Foods high in fat content attract raccoons. Peanut butter is a good bait for raccoons because it is high in fat content and is easily sniffed out by these critters. This is not the best bait to use when it is hot outside, but it is a good option if you are trying to bait your raccoon trap with food or products you have around the house or in your pantry already.

Sweet Foods

Many online articles cite marshmallows as a highly effective bait for raccoons. Processed sugar is not found in foods that raccoons can find in nature, so naturally they are attracted to it. Cut fruit is a good option as well, but may attract other animals.
